Museum Technician

The employee will serve as the museum technician for the Independence Multi-Park Facility, Midwest Region museum collections repository to process incoming park collections for at least twelve MWR parks. Duties include unpacking, rehousing, cleaning, cataloging, and inventorying collections. Museum Technician will perform regular housekeeping and pest management duties, and provide on-site technical assistance to parks. Generate and complete annual inventories. Incumbent will research collections, photograph to fulfil research requests and provide access to collections in storage. Processes and maintains artifacts using standard approaches and readily available reference materials. Initiates routine collections management activities for museum collections, including environmental monitoring, housekeeping, routine rehousing, and integrated pest management. Catalogs new materials into the NPS cataloging system using established procedures and as instructed by a supervisor. Answers research requests and photographs/scans collections to make accessible online To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized Experience is experience related to the operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled. Most positions require a particular subject-matter specialization, e.g., aeronautics, anthropology, art, geology, history, natural science, technology, biology, or zoology. Experience may have been gained in a museum, college, or university, antique shop, commercial art gallery, or other setting involving work with collections of valuable objects or specimens requiring specialized care and handling. You must include months and hours worked per week on your resume to receive credit. EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least four years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in the areas of art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects or other courses related the position. You must include transcripts. - OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. You must include transcripts. -AND- In addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications you must meet the requirements of the Recent Graduate Program. - Recent Graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution. - Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree, due to their military service obligation, have as much as six years after degree completion to apply. - Students MUST submit transcripts with conferred or degree earned date (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
