Vice President - Tax (Remote Opportunity)

The VP of Tax will serve as the single point of accountability for the successful functioning of Surgery Partners tax function.
This leader will play an integral role in leading the Companys overall tax compliance, planning and strategy function.
They will work closely with key finance, legal and other business partners across the organization.
The VP of Tax should have a strong background in corporate income tax, income tax accounting under ASC 740, and partnership tax (i.
e.
, Subchapter K), as well as a solid understanding of various non-income tax concepts (sales/use, property, and unclaimed property).
Further, this leader will successfully implement strategy and lead ongoing tax operations that will deliver continuous improvement around standardization, scalability and automation.
Additional responsibilities include managing and maintaining vendor and business relationships, talent management, partnership with business and Finance leaders, as well as accountability for the establishment, maintenance, and effectiveness of controls across all processes within the tax function.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional financial competence, strong business acumen, robust organizational skills, knowledge of tax systems and processes, exceptional communication skills and the ability to grow & develop a highly engaged team.
The candidate must be able to balance the demands of a rapidly growing, complex environment.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Vice President of Tax will be the main leader for the following tax functions of the Company:
Lead and develop a highly engaged tax organization and best position the function for success Must have strong leadership, communication, collaboration skills and partnership mindset Set the governance and execution strategy for the Tax organization Provide critical thinking and influence by helping to link the companys strategic agenda to the execution of activities within the Tax function Create a diverse and inclusive environment Act as a talent steward for employees, including identifying and developing staff, educating and empowering them, and assessing opportunities to realign work and team structure to ensure optimal efficiency and productivity Foster a culture focused on all aspects of employee development, including the oversight of goal setting, establishing and sharing of best practices, workload balancing, teambuilding, professional development, and general operating parameters Captivate a culture of continuous improvement through leading process improvement transformations, including the identification of opportunities to refine, standardize, automate and/or streamline processes and operations to enhance the capacity of the function as well as the quality of services delivered Ownership of Quarterly and Year-End provision for income taxes under ASC 740.
Ensure that the Companys tax reporting positions are accounted for and disclosed correctly for SEC reporting purposes, and effectively interact with internal and external auditors Ensure timely and accurate income tax compliance requirements for the Companys corporate and facility (i.
e.
, partnership) filings Effectively manage outside tax advisors, as well as interact effectively with the National Office of Big Four Accounting firms and/or major law firms Involvement with the Companys sales and use tax compliance (via liaison with the Companys Accounts Payable department) Involvement with the Companys escheatable/unclaimed property compliance (via liaison with the Companys Accounts Payable and Accounting departments) As needed, effectively defend tax positions in controversy at the examination, appellate and/or litigation levels Model tax implications of various business initiatives, critically review complex tax calculations, and implement process improvement ideas Keep abreast of external trends, benchmarks and changes to tax legislation in order to advise leadership on potential impact to our tax provision and tax planning efforts Involvement with the Companys consistent growth strategy to understand the overall tax impact to the Company.
Such involvement generally includes tax due diligence responsibilities, whether performed internally or via outside tax advisors Communicate tax impacts to various individuals within the organization, as well as the Companys physician partners and their tax advisors QUALIFICATIONS 15
years of progressive work experience in a tax function with diverse experience in tax compliance, planning and strategy; experience in both public accounting and private industry is preferred 10
years of experience managing staff MBA or CPA preferred Healthcare, hospital, ASC and joint venture experience a plus A broad and comprehensive understanding of U.
S.
federal, multi-state and partnership tax principles and their practical application Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally in a matrix structure and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization Experience diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems Demonstrated ability to effectively articulate an issue or point of view to a varied audience both verbally and in writing Strong communication skills including demonstrated ability to interact with senior management and influence outcomes across all levels of the organization Demonstrated experience leading continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis, and project or program management Ability to meet the rigorous deadlines of a growth-oriented company; ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities, coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously Demonstrated ability to analyze and define business problems and identify appropriate operational or process solutions Solid values and high standards of ethics, integrity and trust Recommended Skills Accounts Payable Automation Business Process Improvement Business Process Models Calculations Commercial Awareness Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
